VLC: change audio output device - how it works

In the popular and versatile VLC media player, you can of course also change the output device for audio files. For example, you can listen to music via external speakers via VLC at the same time as you skype on your laptop. Read here how to determine the desired audio output device.
Free choice: Change audio output device in the VLC player
- Open the VLC media player. Use the key combination [Ctrl] + [P] to call up the interface settings of the media player. Alternatively, go to this dialog window via the entry in the menu bar "Tools" → "Settings".
- Select "Audio" in the left navigation. In the "Audio Settings" window that opens, you will find a dropdown menu behind the "Output module" entry that offers you various output sources. The default setting is "Automatic". Change this to "DirectX output".
- With the change to DirectX output, a second selection menu appears in the settings for audio output. Clicking on the input field opens a list with all connected output devices. Select the device that the VLC media player should use for playing audio files with one click.
- Save the changed settings by clicking on "Save" at the bottom of the page.
