VLC Player: 5.1 Sound setting - how it works
If you want to use your PC as a playback device for your home cinema, you can use the VLC Player to transmit the full 5.1 sound to your amplifier - we show you in this practical tip how it's done.
Adjust sound settings with VLC - how it works
- Open the VLC media player. Under the "Options" tab you will find the "Settings". After you have opened the settings, you can expand them by clicking on "Show all".
- In the column on the left you will find the item "Audio". Here you can adjust all settings for the 5.1 sound. To do this, select the "On" sub-item under "Force Dolby Surround detection" and "Dolby Surround" under "Stereo audio playback mode".
- If you have connected your computer to your amplifier via a digital audio output, check the box "Use S / PDIF if available". Now the sound from VLC is passed on to your amplifier as 5.1 sound.
- With a click on "Save" you apply the adjusted settings.
In our next practical tip, we will explain what the differences between Dolby Surround and Dolby Digital are.
