VLC player: MP4 video jerky - what to do?
In some cases, the VLC player may jerk when playing MP4 videos. We'll show you what you can do about it.
Set the loop filter in the VLC player to prevent jerking
You can set the loop filter in the VLC and thus eliminate the jerking in some cases:
- Start the VLC player and click on "VLC" -> "Settings".
- Select "Show All" in the lower left corner.
- Select "Input / Codecs" -> "Video Codecs" -> "FFmpeg".
- Click on "All" under "Omit loop filter for H.264 decoding".
- Then click on "Save" and restart the VLC Media Player. This could solve the problem.
Eliminate stutters: Restore the default settings of the VLC player
You may have accidentally changed some settings in the VLC. To restore the default settings:
- Start the VLC player.
- Select "VLC" -> "Settings".
- Click on "Default values" at the bottom of the settings window and confirm the message that appears.
- Restart the VLC media player and try again.
Problem: The VLC player overloads the CPU
If you have a rather weak computer, it can happen that it is overloaded with one or the other video.
- Check the CPU load on your Mac or Windows PC.
- If the CPU is 90 or even 100 percent busy, your computer is too weak to play the video.
- You can only get the video in poorer quality and play it that way. Alternatively, you only have to switch to a more powerful computer.
