VLC does not play DVDs - it can be because of that
If the VLC media player no longer plays one or more DVDs, this can have several causes. We'll show you how to do it right and how to solve the problem.
VLC Player: DVD is not played
- Update: Click on "Help" in the menu bar at the top and select the "Check for updates" option. If an update is available, install it. If you have recently installed an update, the error may also be due to the new version.
- Hardware: Check if the DVD is read by another device. It is best to try both a different computer and a different DVD player. If the DVD does not play here either, continue reading in the practical tip "Repairing scratched CDs and DVDs".
- Software: Also check whether it is the software. Use the Windows Media Player, for example.
- Search: If you see a special error while reading the DVD, a Google search often helps. Most of the time you are not the first to have the problem.
VLC Player: Solve software problems
If the error has still not been eliminated, you still have to reinstall the software. Problems that arise in the program are thus solved.
- Open the Control Panel and under the "Programs" category click on the "Install Program" option. Select the VLC media player, click on the "Uninstall" button above and follow the further instructions.
- Download the latest version of VLC Meida Player in the CHIP download area. If you have the option to activate the option "Clear settings and cache" during installation, do so.
