VMWare: Update ESXI - a guide
For security reasons, you should update your VMWare ESXI server regularly. Only a few steps are necessary for this. In this practical tip, we will tell you exactly how to do this.
VMWare: Update ESXI - you have to do that
With the following instructions you can easily install the update for ESXI:
- Log in to your server via PuTTY.
- Make sure the server is in maintenance mode. You can set this in the server settings of the vSphere Web Client.
- Enter the following command and confirm with [Enter]: esxcli network firewall ruleset set -e true -r httpClient.
- Then load it with the command "esxcli software profile update -p ESXi-6.0.0-20160302001-standard -d //hostupdate.vmware.com/software/VUM/PRODUCTION/main/vmw-depot-index.xml" available update. This will then be installed automatically.
- If the update was successfully installed, you can restore the firewall to its original state: "esxcli network firewall ruleset set -e false -r httpClient". Again you have to confirm with [Enter].
- Go back to the settings in the vSphere Web Client and turn off maintenance mode.
- To complete the update, you have to restart the system with "reboot".
