If you would like to install Windows XP in VMware, only a few steps are necessary. Read in this practical tip how exactly you have to proceed.
Install and set up Windows XP in VMware - this is how virtualization works
- Start the VMware program and set up a new virtual machine.
- Select "Microsoft Windows" as the system and under "Version" the item "Windows XP Professional".
- The next step is to set up the size of the hard drive. After clicking "Next", set up the additional hardware for the virtual machine.
- Click on the "CD / DVD" entry on the left and activate the checkmark on "Connected" and "Connect at power on" on the right.
- If you have an ISO file from Windows XP, check "Use ISO image file" and load the ISO there by clicking "Browse".
- If you have a CD or DVD from XP, leave the check mark at "Use physical drive" and select your CD or DVD drive there.
- Save the setup with "OK" and start the virtual machine. Before doing so, insert the installation CD or DVD into the drive.
- When you start it for the first time, a message appears that you need to download an update. Click "Download and install" to do this.
- The Windows XP setup is then started. Select which hard drive the system will be installed on and wait for the installation to complete.
- You can now download updates for Windows XP and set up the system.
