Cut VOB video: Here's how
You don't need expensive editing software to cut videos in VOB format without loss. Instead, you can also use free programs. An excellent tool for this is Cuttermaran - we explain how to use it in this guide.
Step 1 for VOB video editing: demux the VOB video
To be able to cut the video file with Cuttermaran, you first have to separate the image and sound tracks. This process is also called "demuxing". The easiest way to do this is with the freeware PVAStrumento:
- Download PVAStrumento from the CHIP download portal. Unzip the ZIP file into any directory. Then start the PVAStrumento.exe in the "GUI" subfolder.
- Open the VOB file by clicking on the button with the three dots and then selecting the file.
- Now click on the "Demux" button. In the new window, enter the output directory under "Basename". Then click "Start" and wait for the process to finish. You can then close the program.
Step 2: cut VOB video
- Download and install Cuttermaran on our download portal. Then start the Cuttermaran.exe.
- Click the "Open" icon and select the MPV file that PVAStrumento created in step 1. Cuttermaran automatically recognizes the associated audio file and also opens it.
- You can now cut the video: To do this, navigate to the starting point of the first scene you want to keep and click the start button to the right of the video image. Then navigate to the end of the scene and click on the end and the plus button. Repeat this with all the scenes you want to keep.
- Click on "Actions" in the menu bar and then on "Cut Video / Audio".
- Switch to the "Muxing" tab. Check "Mux output files". Under "Used Muxer" select "ImagoMPG-Muxer 1.3". Then click on the "Settings ..." button.
- You must now enter the path to the ImagoMPEG-Muxer.exe file. You can download the program here and unzip it to any directory. Select "VOB" as the "Output Type" in Cuttermaran. Confirm your entries with the OK button.
- Now enter an output path. Finally click on the "Save & Exit" button.
