Vodafone: set up a DSL connection - how it works
Before you can surf the Internet via Vodafone, you need to set up your DSL connection. We'll show you what you need to do and when to start setting it up.
Checklist: Set up Vodafone's DSL connection in 5 steps
Before you can start surfing with Vodafone, you have to set up your new DSL connection. Our checklist will help you:
- Conclude a contract with Vodafone and receive contract documents with connection information and access data by post or email
- Let the technician in at the announced appointment or alternatively make another appointment
- Connect the router to the mains and connect it to the telephone socket
- Wait until the connection is activated (latest 5 p.m.)
- Set up a specific router yourself (e.g. Fritzbox, Easybox)
Setting up a DSL connection at Vodafone - the first steps
If you have concluded a DSL contract with Vodafone, you will usually receive your contract documents by post or email after a short time. Among other things, you will find a modem installation code and your DSL login data. Be sure to keep this letter.
- Depending on the house connection, a technician may have to come to your house and activate the connection. Vodafone customer service will tell you whether this is necessary. Here you can also make an appointment for the technician or change an existing appointment.
- You then need a Vodafone modem. When concluding a contract, you usually have the choice between a Fritzbox and the cheaper EasyBox. The procedure is slightly different for both devices:
- Then connect your PC to the first LAN port of the Fritzbox using a LAN cable.
- Then open the Fritzbox user interface in your browser (see video).
- If you have commissioned the router for the first time, first set a router password. The setup wizard then starts automatically.
- If you have already used your Fritzbox for other purposes, click on "Assistants" on the left and then "Set up Internet access".
- In the next window, enter either your modem installation code or your Vodafone username and the associated password.
- The Fritzbox then tests your internet connection and automatically sets up all settings. This process can take several minutes.

Vodafone DSL: Set up connection with EasyBox
If you use Vodafone with an EasyBox, you must first connect the router to the telephone jack. Then plug in the power supply and wait until the Internet LED lights up blue. Note: Of course, this only works if the technician has already activated your connection.
- As soon as the LED lights up, pick up the receiver of your telephone and follow the announcements.
- Now enter the modem installation code for your DSL connection over the telephone and hang up.
- Your connection is set up automatically, but this can take up to 10 minutes. If everything worked, the LEDs "WLAN", "Language", "Internet" and "Power" light up red.
- Alternatively, call up the EasyBox user interface in your browser and log in with the user name "root" and the password "123456". You can also use the setup wizard to enter your modem installation code and activate your connection.
Vodafone: Set up DSL with other modems
Of course you are not bound to the offered routers with your Vodafone connection. You can also use any other device that has a modem built in.
- Search for the connection settings here or start the setup wizard of your device.
- Then enter the modem installation code in the corresponding field. If there is no option here, alternatively use your DSL user name and the associated password. You can find both in your contract documents under the installation code.
- After a few seconds or minutes, you should be connected to the Internet and you can complete the setup.
If the setup fails after several attempts, there is probably a problem with Vodafone. We'll tell you what you can do in this case in another article.
