Windows Smartscreen prevented the start of an unknown app "- you should note that!
Windows 10 sometimes shows the error message "Windows Smartscreen prevented an unknown app from starting". There are several possible causes for this problem. You may then have to change the SmartScreen settings. In this practical tip, we will show you how.
Windows SmartScreen error message: starting an unknown app - what to do?
- In the Windows 10 search bar, type "wscui.cpl" (without the quotation marks). Then open the Control Panel item.
- In the Control Panel window, click on "Change Windows SmartScreen Settings" on the left.
- You can completely deactivate the SmartScreen at this point. But then you run the risk of installing unsafe apps on your PC.
- The first option is recommended. Before you run unknown apps from the Internet, the administrator must give approval. This means that you are on the safe side in most cases.
- If you are not the administrator yourself, but still want to run unknown apps, you should select the second option once. You will then be warned against running unknown apps. However, you do not need administrator approval to still open the app.
