Set up VPN access on Ubuntu
You can easily set up VPN access on Ubuntu. We show you how to do this.
Here's how it works: Set up VPN access on Ubuntu
- Open the console via the menu item "Tools".
- Install the "vpnc" and "network-manager-vpc" packages using the "sudo apt-get install vpnc network-manager-vpnc" command.
- If the "network-manager-vpnc" is not available, an installation of "vpnc" is sufficient.
- Then switch to "System" and "Settings". Open the "Network Connections" here.
- Click on the "Add" button in the "VPN" tab.
- In the next window, select "Cisco Compatible VPN Client (vpnc)" that you just installed.
- Then enter the data of the server as well as your associated user name and password. Click on "Apply" to save the data.
- Then restart the system. You can then connect to the VPN using the network icon at the top of the bar.
This practical tip is based on Linux Ubuntu 10.10. If you want to access your PC from the Internet, you can set up a so-called DynDNS server. How this works under Ubuntu can be read in the next practical tip.
