VRChat: create avatar - how it works
In VRChat you can create your own avatar. This personifies you in virtual reality. In this practical tip, we have summarized the necessary steps for you to create VRChat avatar.
Find characters for VRChat Avatar
Your own avatar presents you in VRChat. Your movements are represented by the 3D figure and thus ensure the desired experience when chatting in virtual reality. Creating the avatar is not as easy as with many other games and chat rooms.
- In VRChat you can only use 3D models as avatars. If you have knowledge of this area, you can create an avatar yourself at this point and use it (see below).
- The 3D model must be compatible with Unity. These must be "fully rigged", that is, fully functional in order to be used.
- You can also download corresponding models from external websites.
- VRChat recommends the "Unity Asset Store", which presents numerous working avatars. Many of these are free and recommended for every taste.
- Then download the data of the selected 3D model.
Create your own VRChat avatar: Here's how
Once you've installed the VRChat 3D model on your computer, do the following:
- Import the avatar files using the SDK. This also includes all texture files that you also have to download for the character. When importing, select the "Humanoid" animation type, as this is the only way to use it as an avatar.
- Then open the avatar in a scene. This allows you to see exactly whether the 3D model is upright or sitting in a strange position. The best settings here are "0, 0, 0".
- When choosing the size, make sure that the character is not larger than 5 x 5 x 5 m. Otherwise this would lead to display problems.
- Then you can make changes to the movements of the avatar using "VRC_AvatarDescriptor" from Unity. This enables you, for example, to directly adjust the jaw movements when speaking.
- Then go to the "Show Build Control Panel" in the SDK. You can use this to check the number of polygons and whether there are problems or errors. You should of course fix this.
- Now you have created your own virtual reality avatar.
