VSync on or off - the best graphics settings

With all current games you can switch the VSync on or off in the settings. In this practical tip, we will tell you which option is the best.
Turn VSync on or off? That brings the graphics option
In the settings of your games you will find the VSync option. This is usually deactivated by default. For some games, it is worth turning on the option:
- If VSync is activated, your graphics card synchronizes with your monitor. This will reduce the FPS to your monitor's refresh rate.
- This avoids graphic errors and the image is displayed more clearly. However, this setting usually requires some computing power.
- Example: If your game runs without VSync at 80 FPS, although your monitor only shows 60 frames per second, graphic errors can occur. Activate VSync, your PC throttles the FPS number to 60 and displays all images on your screen at the same time.
With these games you should activate VSync
Although VSync works well in itself, the quality of some games suffers. You should therefore only activate the option in certain cases:
- If you repeatedly notice small stutters in the game, you can switch on VSync. In this way you avoid so-called "half-frames", which ensure visible stutters.
- If the game runs worse afterwards, the performance of your PC is not sufficient for the graphics settings. In this case, deactivate the option again.
- Even if your monitor has a low refresh rate, you should not use the option. Many devices no longer seem to run smoothly on devices under 40 FPS. So first check the Hertz number of your monitor.
In addition to VSync, you can also enable game antialiasing, as we'll explain in the next article.
