Drying laundry properly: you should note that

Especially in winter it is not so easy to dry the laundry properly. It is often too cold and wet outside, and the clothes horse takes up a lot of space in the apartment. We show you how best to dry your laundry and what you should pay attention to.
This is how you dry your laundry properly in your home
In an apartment without a balcony, basement or attic, you practically only have the option of drying your laundry indoors. The resulting moisture can cause problems.
- There are about two to four liters of water in a load of laundry - that's a lot. So it is important that the moisture is transported outside.
- If you dry your laundry in your own four walls, it is best to tilt the windows in the room. This is how the air circulates and the moisture from the laundry is transported outside.
- If it is very cold in winter, you may not be able to leave your windows open for hours. The moisture then collects in the room and can increase the air humidity by around 30 percent. The biggest danger is that mold will form on the walls.
- Regular surge ventilation is therefore mandatory. Ventilate for about two to three minutes every few hours. If you only have the opportunity to ventilate in the morning and evening, you should leave the windows open at least a little longer. It should be ten minutes or more to get the moisture out of the room.
- If you have asthma or allergy sufferers in your home, you should be more careful about ventilation. Even small mold spores on the walls can cause problems for these people.
Drying laundry outside: this should be noted
The best thing is, of course, if you can dry your laundry outside on a line. Here you do not have to worry about the resulting moisture.
- Even at temperatures just above freezing, you can hang your laundry outside. It doesn't dry quite as quickly, but in most cases that's not a problem. You should only leave your laundry indoors if rain is predicted.
- A light wind can help the laundry to dry faster on the line. Then don't forget the clothes pegs. If a light-colored garment falls off the line into the dirt, you may need to wash it right away.
- Sunlight can be a problem for a long time for dark and colorful items of laundry. The colors are bleached by UV light and lose their radiance. The best way to counteract this is to turn the laundry inside out before drying and remove it as soon as possible after drying.
Before washing, you should sort your laundry correctly. This way you can prevent the clothes from coloring and then not looking as good. Our colleagues from FOCUS Online will give you the best tips.
