Wahl-O-Mat for the 2017 Bundestag election
The Federal Center for Civic Education (bpb) has had the Wahl-O-Mat since 2002. It contains around 40 questions from the current political discussion, which were answered by the candidate parties. A few weeks before the election, you can use the web app to test which party best represents your views.
- Click here for the homepage of the official Wahl-O-Mat and for the apps for Android and for iPhone and iPad.
- Select the upcoming choice and start answering the questions. You can choose between "Agree", "Neutral" and "Disagree".
- You can then have the questions that are particularly important to you evaluated twice.
- Now you can select up to eight parties to compare your answers with.
- A small ranking will then show you in percent to what extent the selected parties agree with you. You can also access a brief explanation of the individual parties for each question.
What do the Wahl-O-Mat results really say?
You have always voted for the CDU / SPD / FDP, you know the party program by heart and still do not reach 100 percent? Don't worry, even top politicians are usually only around 90 percent. But what do such results actually say?
- Attention - no recommendation to vote: The Wahl-O-Mat serves only as a rough guide and is intended to encourage further information. Because, for example, how you answer the question about a minimum wage does not mean that a particular party is a party: parties have very different ideas about a minimum wage. So find out more about the content of the parties.
- Great agreement with the AfD NPD? The right-wing parties AfD and NPD are now looking for voters with popular theses in every area: Whether refugees, euros or internal security - the right-wing ideology of the parties is not immediately apparent in the Wahl-O-Mat: the NPD is, for example, a brake on the rental price, However, German apartment seekers should be given preference over migrants.
- Some topics are not dealt with in the Wahl-O-Mat. So you are asked to inform yourself about the positions of the parties.
- Even if there is strong agreement with a particular party, you should check your election program. Maybe the party doesn't agree with you on an important topic?
- Please note: The Wahl-O-Mat only deals with current issues. However, if you find a politician very likeable and trustworthy, for example, the web app cannot take this into account.
Tip: Alternative tool "WahlSwiper"
The WahlSwiper app comes entirely in Tinder style: swipe left or right if you agree or reject an opinion. Topics include renewable energies and gender equality in marriage and adoption. If you need more information on a topic, there are also small explanatory videos. To the app for Android or for iPhone / iPad.
