When will the world end? These dates and events have been predicted

Since there have been people, there has been speculation about when the world will end. There are always new predictions about the end of our planet. So far, none of these prophecies have come true. We tell you which scenarios are currently being discussed.
End of the world: an appointment planner
So that the eventual end of the world does not confuse your planning for the next few years, here are a few dates when the world could end:
- A nuclear war was predicted for 2018 that could have ended our world. This has been prophesied by none other than Nostradamus. However, his prophecies leave a lot of room for interpretation and fortunately this has not been proven to be true.
- For Christians, the return of Jesus Christ means the last judgment and thus the end of the world. Jeane Dixon, a well-known astrologer and fortune teller of the 20th century, predicted this return for 2020. F. Kenton Beshore, President of the World Bible Society, does not predict the latest judgment until 2021.
- The Messiah Foundation paints another scenario: in 2026, it suspects that Earth will collide with a comet - which would also mean the end of the world. However, there is no concrete evidence for the presumption. The Messiah Foundation, founded in 2002, is the successor to "RAGS International", a spiritual organization that was established in Pakistan in 1980.
- Raymond Kurzweil, an American digital prophet and head of technical development at Google, has made various forecasts for the future of humanity. One assumes that machines will take power by 2045. That would not mean the end of the world, but according to Kurzweil, it may be the end of humanity.
- The mathematician and physicist Isaac Newton was not only concerned with the natural sciences, he was also a very religious person. Newton evaluated numerous Bible verses and concluded that the apocalypse would take place in 2060.
- The American religious scientist David Cook, who deals with Muslim apocalyptic movements, among other things, sees today's war in Syria as a fight in the run-up to the last judgment. He predicts the end of the world for 2076.
End of the world: possible scenarios
- Global climate change has an overall impact on our lives on earth. However, there have always been ice and warm periods that alternate. We have been living in a warm climate for about 12, 000 years now. However, none of these periods mean the end of the world. Even in earlier ice ages, living things have adapted to the extreme cold.
- Without the sun there would be no life on earth. However, too much sun could end life. Since the sun is not a planet but a star, its end is preprogrammed. Before it collapses and goes out, however, the sun would bloat. In the case of such solar expansion, the earth would be burned. The sun is thought to have a lifespan of around 10 billion years - it is now 4 billion years old. It is certain that this scenario will occur. Until then, mankind still has enough time to find alternative accommodation.
- If an asteroid hit Earth, the impact of the impact would depend on its size. Of the approximately 500, 000 known asteroids, only about 30 are large enough to be able to completely destroy the earth in the event of a collision. However, since smaller asteroids can also cause considerable damage, they are constantly monitored. Scientists therefore believe that the end of the world due to a collision is rather unlikely.
- Scientists are more likely to erupt a super volcano, such as that of the Yellowstone volcano. In the event of an eruption, a thick veil of sulfur gases and ashes would permeate the entire earth's atmosphere and fine volcanic dust would settle on all living things. Side effects of an outbreak would also be strong earthquakes and huge tidal waves. But even such a catastrophe does not mean the end of the world. However, life on Earth would be set back as a result.
- A third world war would in all likelihood be nuclear and could actually mean the end of the world. According to scientists, a global nuclear war can not only destroy all life, but also the earth itself. The causes and triggers for armed conflicts include resource shortages or famines.
End of the world: That's what science says
- There is also a scientific study on doomsday. For example, researchers at the Canadian institute BCA Research predicted the end of the world for 2290 with a probability of 50 percent.
- The scientists even believe that the world will go down until 2710 with a probability of 95 percent.
- The researchers see the reason for this in people and their urge to progress.
Dates that have already passed
At the beginning, we mentioned Nostradamus, whose prophecy for 2018 has not come true.
- Harold Camping, a Christian fundamentalist US preacher, had a very specific date for doomsday: May 21, 2011. Nothing like that happened on that day.
- Esotericists cited the Mayan calendar and predicted the end of the world for December 21, 2012. Since the world was still standing on the following day, November 5, 2013 was given as the next date - also without consequences.
- Apocalypticists next saw the date for doomsday for July 31, 2017. On this day, CERN produced a black hole. However, as predicted, this did not get out of control - so nothing happened.
