What does the J mean in an email? Easily explained
If you find the single letter J more often in your emails, you are not the only person who cannot really do much with it. We'll tell you exactly what the J means.
Outlook: Emails with J contain smileys
- In Microsoft Outlook, if you type in a smiling smiley like :) or :-), it will automatically be converted into the typical smiley symbol. If you do not receive your emails with Outlook, you will only see a Y instead of the smiley.
- This is because Outlook automatically converts the smileys and only changes the font in Wingdings. In ASCII code, the J is 74th, just like the smiling smiley in the Wingdings font.
- However, since emails are usually only sent and received in HTML form, the formatting in Wingdings is lost. The same applies to the letters K and L, which stand for a neutral and a sad smiley.
In the next practical tip, we will show you how to use the middle finger smiley on WhatsApp and Facebook.
