420 - pronounced "four twenty" - is a code from the cannabis community.

The code has no real meaning in the real sense. It is more of a universal umbrella term and is used worldwide in the stoning scene.
At 420, everything is celebrated and celebrated that is related to cannabis and drug use.
The number code also stands for being part of the cannabis culture. Whether someone sticks a joint, bakes marijuana cookies or grows the plants - all of this is 420.
Of course, the code was also transferred to a specific date: April 20 (American spelling is 4-20) is practically the festival of the stoner scene. On this day, cannabis-related events take place worldwide.

The code is not a new invention, it originated in the USA and was created in 1971.

In 1971, a group of San Rafael High School students called "Waldos" met regularly to smoke pot.
A specific time was set, namely at 4:20 p.m. This ritual of daily cannabis use at a specific time shaped the code.
Why the students met at this prehistoric age is open. You probably wanted to relax with a joint after school and did this as a ritual.
The code quickly became a worldwide phenomenon. The decisive factor in this development was the hippie band Greatful Dead, which moved to San Rafael. Some "Waldos" had contact with band members, for example, they managed group property or managed a side project of Greatful Dead.
Backstage and at rehearsals the "Waldos" said "Hey, 420" as usual when a joint was passed on.
The members of Greatful Dead adopted the code and so it spread to the musician and stoner scene.
A High Times editor snapped the term and used it at major events like the Cannabis Cup. So the code first conquered the United States of America and finally the whole world.
