What is the Mozilla Maintenance Service?
When browsing your files or processes in the Task Manager, you have probably noticed the "Mozilla Maintenance Service". This service is part of Firefox and can also be switched off if desired. We will explain to you what the "Maintenance Service" is all about.
This is what the maintenance service does
The "Mozilla Maintenance Service" (in German: Mozilla Maintenance Service) is a program belonging to Firefox that installs the automatic updates. Thanks to this program, Windows does not ask you every time you want to upgrade to a new version of Firefox. According to Mozilla, the "maintenance service" does not consume unnecessary computer resources, since it only starts when the new version of Firefox is ready for installation.
This is how you can deactivate the maintenance service
If you prefer to be asked before installing new updates, you can also deactivate the automatic update service.
- Open the settings in Firefox (using the orange Firefox button at the top left of your browser)
- Click on the tab "Advanced" and there on "Update"
- Now remove the check mark from "Use a background service to install updates" and confirm with "OK"
