What is the Spotify Web Helper? Can I delete it?
If you find the Spotify Web Helper in Task Manager, the name doesn't say much about the process. We show you what the Web Helper is needed for and whether you should delete it.
Spotify Web Helper - what is it?
- If you install Spotify on your computer, the Web Helper will also be installed. This is always active in the background, even if Spotify has not started.
- The Web Helper helps other applications to start Spotify. For example, if a website refers to a song on Spotify, the web helper recognizes this and does not start the song in the browser, but automatically opens Spotify for you.
- This function is helpful, but is rarely used. In addition, the service always works in the background. We will tell you in the next paragraph whether you should remove the Web Helper.
Deactivate Spotify Web Helper instead of deleting it
- The Web Helper is an integral part of Spotify and therefore cannot be easily deleted from the program. However, you can undercut the start of the web helper.
- If the web helper is prevented from starting, it has no effect on Spotify. The program then just cannot be started from the browser. As a rule, however, this function is hardly used.
- Open the Task Manager and switch to the "Autostart" tab at the top. Search for the entry "SpotifyWebHelper" and click on the "Deactivate" button at the bottom right (see picture). The next time Windows is started, the Web Helper will no longer be loaded.
