What is a download? You can get it explained here
Before you start a download on the Internet, you should understand what happens:
- In essence, downloading means that data from the Internet is transferred to your computer and stored.
- So whenever you visit a website, do a series of downloads. The downloaded data will then be displayed by your browser.
- However, this explanation is still very general and most of these downloads are only temporary. This means that they will be deleted from your computer after leaving the website.
- When we speak of downloads today, we mean a special type of download in which you save larger files permanently (!).
- When you download a file, it will be copied from the Internet to your computer so that you can use it at a later time.
Is a download good or bad?
When you go out and download now, there are several things to keep in mind:
- Be careful when downloading and opening files from external sites. Depending on the publisher, website and content, such data can often include malware.
- Limit your downloads to official websites or websites that explicitly check downloads. Before we record a program in the CHIP download portal, it is thoroughly checked for viruses.
- Downloaded files are usually displayed in a line at the bottom of the browser or in the address bar at the top right. Here you can click and open it immediately.
- You can also press the [CTRL] + [J] keys in the browser to display the download management. Here you will also find the latest downloads.
The download speed mainly depends on your internet connection. That's why we show you how to improve your internet speed.
