What is a feature? Easily explained
Read or hear the term "feature" says very little at first. We show you what a feature is and in what context the term is used in general.
Feature - what is it?
- The word "feature" can neither be correctly translated nor precisely defined. Generally, a feature is described as a feature or a property.
- The feature exists in both radio and journalism. This is a kind of radio play or lively newspaper reports.
- In the technology and computer world, however, the word "feature" is used for other purposes. The feature is usually a special function.
Feature in technical articles: What does that mean?
- For example, if you read an article on CHIP.de, the term feature is used a little more often. Special functions of software are meant as a feature.
- A feature is usually only called a feature if it is something new or special in software.
- Example: If program A can process images in the same way as program B, it is a normal function of the software. However, if program B can also send pictures, it is a rather rarely seen feature.
- However, features cannot only appear in computer programs. The term feature is also used to refer to hardware. If, for example, a smartphone can be charged by induction, this is (still) a rather rarely seen feature.
Features are therefore special features or functions of software or a device.
The Google search engine also has features - we will explain to you in another practical tip how you can use the features there and really google them.
