What is a subwoofer? Easily explained
When it comes to the home theater system or music systems, the term subwoofer is often used. We show you what a subwoofer actually is and how it works.
Subwoofer - what is it?
A subwoofer is a loudspeaker that amplifies the tones in low frequencies. The subwoofer is also called "bass box" or "woofer".
- Normal loudspeakers only have a limited frequency range. The subwoofer has a lower frequency range and can therefore play the otherwise barely audible bass.
- Subwoofers are indispensable especially for the well-equipped home cinema. But an additional subwoofer is also built into music systems and many cars.
- There are subwoofers in many sound systems - for example in the 5.1 home cinema system or the 2.1 system, which only consists of two speakers and a subwoofer.
In the next practical tip, we will show you the difference between active and passive subwoofers. An overview of the most suitable sound system for your individual use can be found here.
