What is an Origin ID? Easily explained
The online modes of many video games require accounts like Origin ID to identify players. Here we explain what an Origin ID is and what you need it for.
Use an Origin ID
The Origin ID, or in some places just EA ID, is a comprehensive account that you can use to manage all of your Electronic Arts games.
- Origin is the web platform through which you can buy and register games from EA, but also connect with friends or unlock achievements.
- To use the platform and all related services, you need an account - your Origin ID.
- In this account, you then store, among other things, the associated names of your consoles and can then buy and manage games on all platforms with the same account.
- If you want to connect with other players, simply give them your Origin ID. You can play together in this way, especially with PC games that run via the Origin client.
- Since you now have to register many EA games before you can play them, the Origin ID also serves as copy protection. Accordingly, you can easily create the account when you register your first game.
- If you want to use the Origin Shop or for other reasons create an account without a game, you can do so on the Origin website.
If you are logged in with your Origin ID, you can earn points - in the next article we will show you what you can use Origin points for. We'll also explain how to get free games with Origin "On the House".
