In many programs you will find a sandbox function, which is often not self-explanatory. We explain what a sandbox is and how a sandbox works.
Sandbox - what is it?
- A sandbox is a kind of safe test environment. This is used in many programs to carry out potentially unsafe actions. Newly programmed software can also be tested in a sandbox.
- The program opens its own partitioned area on the computer, the sandbox. No files can be moved in or out here - only the unsafe action is carried out. This keeps your computer safe and stable.
These programs have a sandbox
- The free anti-virus software Comodo Internet Security has its own sandbox function. If you want to open a file from an unsafe source, you can do this with the sandbox. If there is a malware in the file, it will not get out of the sandbox and therefore cannot cause any damage.
- The Google Chrome browser is completely based on sandbox technology. The browser is isolated from the system, so attacks in the browser cannot spread to your system.
