What is Fallout Shelter? Easily explained
During the E3 2015 Bethesda presented not only game scenes from the role-playing game Fallout 4 but also Fallout Shelter, a mobile branch of the series. You can find out what the title has to offer in this article.
Fallout Shelter - what is it?
In Fallout Shelter, you are named head of one of the numerous bunkers that are supposed to ensure the survival of humanity after a devastating nuclear war. You take care of the production of energy, water and food by assigning appropriate tasks to the residents. If the manufacturing process takes too long for you, you can shorten the duration - but with the risk that the production will go wrong and the plant is on fire. This makes everyday life in the bunker much more exciting, especially when you are pressed for time. Whether and how quickly your residents can complete their tasks depends not only on chance, but on seven different attributes:
- Strength: Muscular residents are best suited for the generator room.
- Perception: With a high attribute value, fresh water is produced faster.
- Endurance: It is best to put permanent resilient residents in the storage room.
- Charisma: They find the right words for the opposite sex, which may lead to a baby.
- Intelligence: Your intelligent residents work most successfully in the research laboratory and in the hospital.
- Agility: You are best kept in the diner to quickly provide others with food.
- Luck: This attribute increases your chance of getting a bottle cap.
Work is not the only focus
So that your population does not die out, you must also provide for offspring. For this you put two residents of different sexes in the same compartment and hope for the best. Over time, your bunker will continue to grow and you can ensure that everything goes together better, or you design the home of your residents according to your preferences and try out as an underground room designer.
Isolated from the Fallout outside world? Not really
As manager of the bunker, it is also your job to make weapons and armor. These are useful, for example, if you consider one of your residents to be particularly heroic and want to send him on an expedition to the outside world.
- With a bit of luck and sufficient armament, he will return with valuable goods and experience. However, if you are unlucky, he will die on the trip.
- Occasionally, at Fallout Shelter you will also find malicious robbers who want to steal valuable items from your bunker. In the same way, sometimes radioactively irradiated rats penetrate into the underground. It is your responsibility to ensure that your residents can defend themselves.
Fallout Shelter: Exemplary payment system in the guise of a gamble
Fallout Shelter is basically free, and unlike other mobile games, developer Bethesda doesn't push you to spend money on in-app purchases at every opportunity.
- Here you are only offered the opportunity to buy so-called lunch boxes. These include weapons that your residents can also find on expeditions, or items to decorate your bunker.
- So microtransactions in Fallout Shelter don't necessarily mean faster game progress. Nevertheless, the distribution as well as the game itself is very popular and enjoyed greater sales than the smartphone hit Candy Crush Saga in the first days after its release.
Fallout Shelter can be downloaded free of charge here for iPhone and iPad. A version for Android phones and tablets is expected to follow at the end of the year.
