What is google Clearly explained
From an IT company to a monster search engine to your own verb - but what exactly is Google? We'll explain it to you.
What is and how does Google work?
Above all, you probably know Google as a search engine that gives you a whole series of answers to every obscure question. But how does it work?
- The Google portfolio now includes countless services, but since 1998 the focus has been on the search engine, with which you can find almost anything you can search on the web.
- The simple input surface has hardly changed since it was created. The mechanics that work in the background are even more so.
- Websites are indexed with so-called web crawlers so that Google can show you the information they are looking for. These always follow new web links and find new sites through cross-references. The index is correspondingly gigantic.
- Google therefore does not search the web again with every request, but rather the index that has already been created. This is then filtered according to your search terms.
- Google also tries to sort the search results by relevance. New standards are always used for this. An example is links from websites classified as relevant to this source, which implies credibility and makes the search result more relevant.
- Google can also deal with different spellings and also offers suggested corrections. This is not the only reason why Google search is very popular as an auto-correction tool.
- English, in particular, can now answer many questions directly in the Google interface without having to redirect you to other sites. However, you will still find corresponding search results. Examples of this are Saturn's moons or unit conversions.
- The Knowledge Graph is also relatively new. It shows you a detailed view of information about known people, for example, directly in the search window.
- With all of this, however, it is important that Google adapts to your search behavior in many ways. Especially if you are logged into a Google account, but even without an account, search queries and used results are tracked. Not only ads are adjusted to the preferences interpreted in this way, but above all future search results.
How is Google Search funded?
Google, the company that does the Google search, is one of the most successful IT companies in the world and makes huge amounts of money from the search. But you don't have to spend a penny on your searches, so where does the money come from?
- Google search and most other Google services are free for ordinary end users.
- However, you pay by giving Google a lot of private data that the company uses to show you personalized advertising.
- In general, you will often find some purchased links among the top search results. The costs for this are borne by the companies that bought this search query. Payment is usually made per click.
