If you read the term instant messaging, you probably won't be able to figure it out. We explain what it is and how an instant messenger works.
What is instant messaging?
- The term "instant messaging" stands for the immediate transmission of messages. So-called programs with the designation "Messenger" are used for this. The use of these programs is called "chatting".
- This is software for the PC or apps for the smartphone, which you can use to communicate with your friends in writing. In contrast to an SMS or email, instant messaging shows you whether and when a message was read.
- The prerequisite for instant messaging is that both you and your chat partner have installed the same messenger.
- Well-known instant messengers are, for example, WhatsApp, Skype or ICQ. You can download it and install it on your PC, tablet or smartphone.
- After registering, you can add your friends and write messages with them in real time. The chat partner does not necessarily have to sit in front of the smartphone or PC, it can also receive and reply to the message later.
