What is IPTV? Explained in a simple and understandable way
When the term IPTV is used, it is often about the Internet and television. We tell you exactly what IPTV is and how you can use IPTV at home. Of course, explained in a simple and understandable way.
IPTV simply explained: television over the Internet
- The abbreviation IPTV stands for "Internet Protocol Television". This is a way of broadcasting television over the Internet.
- If you want to watch TV at home, you can do this via cable, DVB-T, satellite and IPTV. The Internet is used to transmit the TV signal at IPTV.
- In the age of the Internet, more and more data is being sent over the Internet. In addition to IPTV, many households also use IP telephony, in which calls to landlines are sent over the Internet and no longer over the telephone line.
Is IPTV also offered in Germany?
- IPTV is currently offered in Germany by Vodafone and Deutsche Telekom. The providers can thus offer Internet, telephony and television via one line and one tariff.
- To receive IPTV you need a special receiver that you simply connect to your router. You will always receive the receivers with the concluded contract. Some modern TVs have already integrated the required receiver.
- IPTV is not quite as widespread in Germany. In small towns, the internet speed leaves something to be desired and cannot yet be burdened with sending TV signals. In France, the cable network is comparatively poorly developed, so IPTV is mainly used here.
- You can find out whether you have a fast internet connection easily and free of charge using the DSL comparison tool.
