More and more online shops support the "MasterCard SecureCode". But what exactly is that? We explain to you what the service is good for and how it works.
What is MasterCard SecureCode?
- "MasterCard Secure Code" is a 3D secure process that is used when paying by credit card in online shops. It makes the credit card considered to be quite insecure much more secure.
- Via the service, you also assign a password to your credit card that you need for online shopping. With every purchase you confirm your identity directly with your bank. If you lose your card, it can no longer be used without the password.
- Customers in particular benefit from this security measure. But retailers are also motivated to support the service, since they are guaranteed real payment. You can already use "MasterCard SecureCode" in numerous online shops.
- To activate the service, you have to log in to your bank once and enter a password and a small welcome text. The service identifies itself with this text. This way you can see that you are really connected to your bank.
How does MasterCard SecureCode work?
- When shopping online, go to the cash register as usual and select your MasterCard credit card as a method of payment.
- Enter your billing address as well as the card number, its expiry date and the check digit as usual.
- The online shop now sends your bank a request. Your bank will then establish a secure connection with you.
- You will be greeted with your chosen text and asked to enter your password.
- Your bank then checks the password and reports to the online shop that your identity has been confirmed. The purchase can then be completed.
