What is Raspberry Pi? Easily explained
If you have ever read or heard about a Raspberry Pi on the Internet, we will provide you with an explanation of what that is.
Raspberry Pi - what is it actually?
A Raspberry Pi is a fully fledged computer, only in mini format.
- A Raspberry Pi is a so-called single-board computer. This means that all the electronic components required for operation - apart from the power supply unit - are housed on a single circuit board.
- The mini-computer got its name from the British Raspberry Pi Foundation, which developed it.
- Linux distributions such as Raspbian "wheezy" are available as the operating system.
What was the Raspberry Pi developed for?
- The Raspberry Pi Foundation set itself the goal of developing a computer that everyone can afford. So young people should also be able to own a computer with little financial means.
- The developers have clearly achieved the goal: You can already purchase a Raspberry Pi for less than 30 euros.
- The low price also results from the fact that the Raspberry Pi has no housing. There are no limits to the creativity of the users. You can also use a "classic" housing.
- In our special issue with manual you will find many possible uses for the Rasperry Pi. For example, you can use it to implement creative projects such as your own robot or home surveillance.
You can also use XBMC as a media center with the mini computer. We explain in another practical tip how to install XBMC on Raspberry Pi.
