Sexting - what is it?
- Sexting is a suitcase word and is composed of the terms "sex" and "texting" (English for "text", "write SMS").
- Sexting in the original sense of the word refers to the sending of SMS messages with sexual, stimulating content.
- It is about arousing the conversation partner through the erotic content.
- Since the introduction of MMS and messengers such as WhatsApp, sexting has also included sent pictures, videos or voice messages.
- Sexting is currently receiving increased attention with new types of apps: apps like Snapchat seem to be ideally suited for sending sexually stimulating pictures. The messengers delete pictures immediately after viewing.
- As cell phones and the Internet are becoming more and more networked, sexting is no longer restricted to sending SMS. Sexting is also an issue on Facebook, WhatsApp or other internet platforms.
