In this practical tip, we explain what an SSD is. SSD is an acronym and stands for the "Solid State Drive" hard drive type. We explain the special features of these hard drives.
SSD storage - Faster hard drives without rotating storage
The term SSD is an abbreviation and stands for "solid-state drive". In German it is sometimes called "semiconductor drive".
- It is an electronic storage medium. Flash-based memory chips and SDRAMs are used for SSD storage.
- Due to the very fast access times, their robust structure and their noiselessness, SSD hard disks are preferred over conventional magnetic storage drives.
- The prices are more expensive than for the usual storage media, but are now affordable.
- As already mentioned, SSD storage media are noiseless. Because they have no moving parts and can therefore not generate any noise.
- SSD storage devices are increasingly used, particularly in mobile devices. Compared to the flash memory, the SSD memory requires hardly any cooling, in addition to the examples already mentioned.
