What is svchost.exe? Clearly explained
Take a closer look at the Windows tank manager, you will find the svchost.exe process, maybe even several times. You can find out exactly what that is here
Svchost.exe: what is it and what does the file actually do?
Svchost.exe is a system file. You will find it in the directory "C: \ Windows \ System32".
- The exe file is a so-called host process. Windows uses them to run services.
- Svchost.exe executes the Windows services by processing the program code of the associated DLL (Dynamic Link Library) for each service.
- A new instance of svchost.exe is started for each service to be executed. The more Windows services are running, the more exe files are started.
- You can see which services the svchost-exe share for processing. In the registry, these services are listed in the key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows NT \ CurrentVersion \ svchost".
- Start the Task Manager and select the "Details" tab, among other things, the svchost.exe processes. Sort here by "RAM", you can see which processes require a lot of resources.
- If you want to know which service the process belongs to, right-click on the corresponding svchost.exe to open the context menu. If you select "Switch to service (s)", the task manager will jump to Services ", where the associated service has already been marked and you can therefore stop it if necessary.
