What does Amazon know about me? Here's how to find out
A data report shows what Amazon knows about me. And that's more than you think. Amazon not only saves all search terms and products viewed, but every single click on the Amazon page. You can only find out what data the Group has about you if you refer to the Data Protection Act.
What does Amazon know about me? The US company collects this data
- Amazon stores all information you make in the shop indefinitely: payment details, addresses and orders. However, Amazon collects more information about you, such as what products you are looking at, what you click, and what you are looking for.
- Amazon collects even more data when you use Alexa: Every word is recorded by Alexa, written down and saved as an audio file and as text. Every now and then Alexa starts accidentally even though you didn't say the key word and starts recording.
- Problematic: If you register with Amazon, Amazon grants all these rights. If you do not want this, you must not order from Amazon - there is no other way.
Amazon data information: How to find out what Amazon knows
The German Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG) also obliges Amazon to provide information about personal data. From May 2018, the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will also come into force in Germany, which will further strengthen your rights. It stipulates that Amazon may, for example, send you a copy (digital) if you wish. How to get the data:
- Send a written request to Amazon.de GmbH, Marcel-Breuer-Str. 12, 80807 Munich or directly to the Amazon customer service by email. Your text can look like this:

Please send the information to the following address: Max Mustermann, Musterstraße 1, 10101 Musterstadt. Date of birth: 01/01/1950. Thank you very much. With kind regards, Max Mustermann.
