What does Facebook know about me? Request data on CD
Facebook is required by EU law to disclose collected data when requested. We will show you how you can request your data collected by Facebook free of charge on CD - even if you are no longer registered on Facebook.
- Unfortunately, due to excessive demand, Facebook deleted the online form that allowed the collected data to be sent on CD. However, you can try to get this CD with an email request.
- Create an email, preferably with the email address that you have stored on Facebook. Write "Access Request" as the subject and as text: "To whom it may concern, I wish to make an access request under the Data Protection Acts 1988 and 2003 for a copy of any information you keep about me, on computer or in manual form. I am making this request under section 4 of the Data Protection Acts. My name (s): My e-mail (s): My birthdate: Further Information: "
- Complete your missing data and send the email to " ".
- You will receive a standard email as an answer, but according to the organization europe-v-facebook.org your request will be processed.
Alternatively: apply in writing by post
- Open the form to request your data, provided by europe-v-facebook.org.
- Fill out the form and sign it. Please note that you have entered your real name in the Facebook profile.
- Send the form to the address of Facebook: Facebook Ireland Limited, Hanover Reach, 5-7 Hanover Quay, Dublin 2, IRELAND
Note: Facebook does not always send all data
- In some cases, Facebook may only find a download link for a CD. However, this does not contain much of the data about you collected by Facebook.
- The website europe-v-facebook.org reveals how you should proceed in this case.
Alternatively: WebApp displays your Facebook data
If you are still registered with Facebook, you can view your data more conveniently with a web app. It tells you what Facebook knows about you.
- Open privacy-awareness-app.org.
- There you have to log in with your Facebook account by clicking on "Log in" and give the authorization to the WebApp.
- It will then take a few minutes for your data to be loaded. But then you can easily see your activity, your thoughts, your locations and much more.
Alternatively, you can download your Facebook data as an HTML file and read it yourself. However, they are not as extensive as the CD. If you want to protect your Facebook data, we will show you the best tips on data protection.
