Washing machines: How many turns are useful?
How many turns make sense for your new washing machine depends on various factors. This practical tip explains the most important ones.
What did the washing machine spin count say?
In the shops you will find washing machines with a rotation between 1, 000 and 1, 600 revolutions per minute. The most common are the models with a spin speed of 1, 200 and 1, 400 revolutions per minute.
- The higher the number of spins, the more moisture is pressed out of the laundry.
- The more vigorously you spin your laundry, the drier it comes out of the machine.
Which speed is appropriate?
Which number of spin cycles per minute makes sense for you depends largely on how you dry your laundry. And of course how your laundry is made up. Sensitive fabrics such as silk or new wool should not be spun at all, or only very briefly and with a low spin speed.
- At 1, 000 revolutions per minute, the remaining moisture in the laundry is around 60 percent.
- 1.4000 revolutions per minute reduce the residual moisture to about 50 percent.
- 1, 600 revolutions per minute reduce the residual moisture to around 45 percent. However, the laundry is more heavily loaded and is visibly crumpled.
- As a rule of thumb: if you can hang your laundry outside on the balcony, in the garden or in the drying room, the residual moisture may well be a little higher.
- However, if you use a tumble dryer, your new washing machine should make at least 1, 200 revolutions - better 1, 400 revolutions - per minute. Otherwise, the dryer eats too much time and electricity to get the laundry dry.
What else is there to consider when buying a new washing machine?
- Another not insignificant criterion when choosing a suitable washing machine is the drum size. You can find tips on this here.
- Electricity consumption is of course very important, and the "EU energy consumption label" is helpful.
