There are various causes for water in the refrigerator. We will explain this to you and show you what you can do about it.
Water in the refrigerator: these are the causes
Some condensation in the fridge is completely normal. However, if it occurs in large quantities, you should research the cause.
- If you open your refrigerator too often and for too long, this can explain the water accumulation. The warm air enters the inside of the refrigerator from outside, where it condenses on the walls.
- If the food in your refrigerator touches the back wall, this can also be the cause of the water.
- Even if you put food in the refrigerator before it cools down, you risk increasing water retention.
- A blocked drain is probably the most common cause of water in the refrigerator. The drain is at the bottom of the back of your fridge and can clog if it is not cleaned regularly.
- A porous or broken seal on the refrigerator can also lead to unusually large amounts of water.
Water in the fridge: you can do that
Here are the steps you can take to get rid of the problem with the water in the fridge:
- If opening the refrigerator is the cause, regular defrosting will help to get rid of the excess water and icing.
- Always store your food in the refrigerator so that it does not come into contact with the inner walls.
- Allow food to cool down before storing it in the refrigerator.
- If the drain is blocked: Simply clean the drain at the bottom of the back of your refrigerator at regular intervals with a cotton swab to ensure that excess water runs off.
- If the seal is defective, only renewal helps. Before that, the most you can do is try to reduce the permeability by pressing the door more tightly. Put a flashlight inside the refrigerator, close it and look in the dark to see if light is still coming out. Then the seal must be replaced in any case.
