As unlikely as it sounds, it doesn't matter which water you buy or drink. There are clear differences in terms of ingredients and quality. We show you what to look for when buying drinking water.
Buying water: you should note that
An important factor is the proportion of hydrogen carbonate. This controls the pH of our body. In addition, mineral water also supplies your body with numerous minerals, such as magnesium, calcium and sodium.
- Your body also produces the hydrogen carbonate salt itself, but the content of this substance in the mineral water should be at least 1, 000 mg per liter.
- If you don't give your body enough hydrogen carbonate, it can lead to an uncontrolled acid-base balance. As a result, the body's own production of the substance is discontinued. This affects the metabolic processes in your blood.
- The consequences are also felt in the form of heartburn. To counteract this, pay attention to an optimal hydrogen carbonate content when buying water.
- Magnesium: This substance is particularly important for heart and concentration. In addition, it also relieves muscle cramps and tension. When buying water, pay attention to at least 50 milligrams of magnesium per liter. The recommended daily requirement is 300 to 400 milligrams.
- Calcium: Babies, children and pregnant women have a particularly high need for calcium, because it promotes bone and tooth formation. A daily dose of 1, 100 milligrams is recommended.
- Sodium: To prevent muscle cramps, fatigue and concentration problems, you should make sure you have an adequate sodium intake. The consumption of the mineral should be around 1, 500 milligrams a day.
Alternatively: tap water is so healthy
The general rule is: tap water in Germany is pure and healthy. Our water suppliers make great efforts to keep it that way.
- Toxic substances, such as fertilizers or the nitrate contained therein, are removed without a trace by various processes.
- In addition to different cleaning processes, processes such as electrodialysis or reverse osmosis also contribute to this. Our tap water is filtered using electricity or pressure.
- The rule is: water suppliers are responsible for the quality of our crane water, but only to a certain point. As soon as the water flows inside a house, its owner is responsible for it.
- This means that contaminated pipes, for example due to lead residues or bacteria, can severely affect the water quality. So test your incoming tap water with a suitable drinking water test.
- A good alternative to mineral water: There are now many manufacturers who offer water treatment devices. These include SodaStream, which makes it possible for you to bubble tap water using carbon dioxide capsules.
