Natural products for descaling the kettle
If you fill your kettle with hard water, limescale will quickly accumulate inside the device. To solve this, you need acidic agents:
- If you want to do without chemical cleaning agents, you can descale your kettle with vinegar or vinegar essence. Add a little water to soften the smell of the mixture.
- Alternatively, dissolve two tablespoons of citric acid powder in one cup of water. Lemon juice works just as well - but you'll need to use a larger amount.
- Briefly brew the vinegar or citrus solution in the kettle and then rinse or boil once or twice with clear water. To also descale the edges, soak a clean cloth in the mixture and wipe over the lime stains.
Descale a kettle with detergents
Many cleaning agents from the drugstore advertise to remove lime - the most common is vinegar cleaner. Only use such a product if the kettle is also dirty. In contrast to natural acids, limescale cleaners foam very strongly, which increases the risk of not rinsing out all residues of the cleaning agent completely.
- Only use cleaning agents such as vinegar cleaners if your kettle is really dirty.
- With pure limescale deposits - as described above - citric acid or vinegar are sufficient.
Remove lime unconventionally
With acute calcifications, there is not always the right cleaning agent in the house. Browse your household, you may still find a solution:
- Pour a sachet of baking soda into your kettle and fill it with about half a liter of water. Then turn on the kettle and let the mixture boil. Wait an hour, empty the kettle and boil a load of pure water - your kettle is now lime-free again.
- Alternatively, take an aspirin or denture cleaner tablet and add it to the kettle with a liter of water. Once the tablet is dissolved, bring the water to a boil. Then pour the water out and rinse again. Even so you can get your kettle clean again.
