The WD My Cloud is a NAS system with many useful functions. In this way you can also perform automatic downloads from previously defined sources. You can find out how this works in this practical tip.
WD My Cloud: Automatic downloads - how it's done
- Open the web interface of your WD My Cloud. You can do this by entering the IP address or the name of the NAS system in the address bar in the browser.
- Then click through in the horizontal bar at the top until you come to the point »Apps«. Click on this point.
- Now you can choose which protocol the download will run on. If you want to download files from your FTP server, select »FTP Downloads«. Now enter the address of your server, the port (port 21 by default), the folder on your server and the desired location of the file on the NAS. If this download is to be carried out regularly, click on »Series« and select the intervals at which the file should be downloaded. This is ideal, for example, if your server regularly writes a backup file to a specific directory. So you can save it automatically.
- For automatic HTTP downloads, select the "HTTP Downloads" app. Now enter the URL and the destination folder. If you want to carry out this download more often, click on »Series« and indicate the intervals at which the action should be carried out. You can also download files from secured HTTP servers. To do this, simply click on "Account" and enter your login details.
- Torrents are also possible with the WD My Cloud. To do this, click on "P2P Downloads", enter the corresponding URL and - if necessary - set the download schedule.
