If you care about your data, you should make a backup of it regularly. With the WD My Cloud, this is easily possible.
System backup on Windows 8 and Windows 10
If you have Windows 8 or higher installed on your computer, a system backup is not a difficult task.
- First, make sure you have already connected the drive for your backup to Windows. To do this, open Explorer, click on "This PC" and check under "Network addresses" whether your WD My Cloud is already linked to your computer. If this is the case, you can go straight to the next point, otherwise you will first have to connect your My Cloud as a network drive.
- Then click on the start icon and then on "Settings".
- Select the menu item »Update and security« in the settings and then click on »Backup« on the left.
- Then click on "Add drive" and select your My Cloud.
- Click on "More options" to make further settings. For example, you can specify the frequency of the backups in this menu or add additional folders to the backup.

- Then click on the start icon and enter "Control Panel" in the search bar. Then select the appropriate result.
- Select »Small symbols« in the top right of the display setting. Although this is not absolutely necessary, it makes orientation easier. Then click on "Backup and restore".
- Press "File version history" at the bottom left, then "Select drive". If you don't see the location you want, click Show All Network Locations.
- Then select the desired drive and click on "OK". Your computer immediately starts backing up data.
- You can then make further settings in the menu on the left, such as the frequency or the size of the backup.
