WD My Cloud: change raid mode - how it works
If you want to get more speed with your WD My Cloud Mirror or just need more storage, you can change the raid mode. In this practical tip, we will show you how this works.
Change raid mode on WD My Cloud - Here's how
- Call up the IP of your WD My Cloud in the browser and log in.
- Click on "Storage" in the horizontal menu at the top and then on the "Change RAID Mode" button.
- Now your hard drives will be self-tested. This provides information about the condition of your HDDs.
- Next, you need to choose which raid mode you want to use. Raid 0 and JBOD distribute your data on all hard drives simultaneously, while Raid 1 always creates an exact copy of the first hard drive on the second. You can achieve higher speeds with Raid 0, but with Raid 1 you always have two identical hard drives.
- Warning: If you now click on "Next", the hard drives of your WD My Cloud Mirror will be formatted, so all data will be deleted. Therefore, you should create a backup beforehand.
- Now you have to wait: Your My Cloud will now format all existing hard drives and create the raid. This may take several minutes. Once this process is complete, you can start using the NAS again.
