Web 2.0 - simply explained
When it comes to the early days of the Internet, the term Web 2.0 is often used. In this practical tip, we explain what exactly is behind it.
Web 2.0 explains: what is it actually?
- Web 2.0 is an umbrella term that combines several aspects of a new era of the Internet. Version number 2.0 is intended to clarify that there has been a change on the Internet.
- Web 2.0 primarily means that the user simply no longer consumes the content of the Internet, as it used to. The user himself becomes part of the Internet by creating his own content and sharing information.
- The term first appeared in 2003. In the meantime, the term Web 2.0 has gone out of style because the Internet has become everyday life in this form.
- There are numerous definitions of what Web 2.0 is exactly. In addition to the changes already mentioned on the Internet, cloud computing is also often seen as part of Web 2.0.
Comparison of Web 2.0 and Web 1.0
Web 1.0 is the Internet as it was in its early years. The term was only introduced retrospectively to differentiate it from Web 2.0.
- While everyone was traveling alone on the Internet in the age of Web 1.0, users are networking more and more in times of Web 2.0. Forums in particular, but also comment columns and videos and articles ensure the exchange of users.
- From the former consumer, who only absorbs the given content, the user becomes a prosumer. It is a combination of producer and consumer. The user not only creates their own content, but also shares it with other users.
