An overview of the most common types of plantain
Three types of plantain can be observed in our latitudes:
- The ribwort has narrow, lanceolate leaves with distinct longitudinal veins. The plant grows to a height of 10 to 40 centimeters. The plantain flowers from April to September. The ribwort is mainly found on meadows, on the edge of paths, on lawns and fallow land. Ribwort cough syrup is helpful for coughs and relieves the urge to cough.
- The white plantain is characterized - as the name suggests - by broad, egg-shaped leaves. The ears are narrow cylindrical. The plant grows five to 30 centimeters in height. The white plantain flowers from June to September. This type of plantain can be found in courtyards, on the edges of paths, on fields, lawns, open, often used areas and on the shore.
- The middle plantain also has broad, egg-shaped leaves that are arranged in a rosette that is usually close to the ground. The plant grows to a height of 20 to 40 centimeters. Middle plantain blooms from May to July. Preferred locations are meadows, roadsides, pastures, lawns and drier places.
