Smoking incense is a spiritual experience without the use of incense sticks or fragrance oils. The resin has been smoked in the same way for thousands of years. In this article, you will learn how to use the sacred incense.
Incense Incense: Utensils
Frankincense is the air-dried gum resin from Boswellia sacra, also called "Arabian frankincense", which can be smoked in different ways. If you want to use the resin instead of incense sticks, two traditional incense methods are available. Smoking with a soft smoking pan or warmer is particularly suitable for use at home. No coal is required for this variant, which prevents smoke from developing indoors. The following utensils are used for this:
- incense
- Incense pans: You can choose variants with or without sieve for the warmer. A sieve promotes the development of aroma, but the incense must be placed on a surface so that the oil does not drip into the flame.
- tealight
- Mortar and pestle
- aluminum foil
Frankincense: Instructions for smoking
As soon as you have all the utensils ready, you can start smoking. Always pay attention to the firm position of the pan so that there is no risk of fire.
- Start by crushing the incense in the mortar. In this way, the resin can be smoked better. The mortar should be clean in order not to smoke residues or other materials.
- Place a little incense in the bowl of the warmer. In the case of a frankincense pan with sieve, a piece of aluminum foil is first folded. The incense is placed on the sieve together with the aluminum foil.
- Light the tealight. Then set the desired height of the pan or sieve. When the incense is closer to the flame, the aroma intensifies.
- Now you can relax and enjoy the incense. Cleaning the bowl afterwards is important as the resin becomes sticky.
