Store wine correctly: you have to take this into account
Storing wine properly is not difficult. Some wines should be kept for a long time in order to ripen properly. In this article we show what is important.
How to store wine properly
Not everyone has a wine cellar at home. Nevertheless, you can keep noble drops well, taking some aspects into account.
- If the wine is closed with a screw cap or a plastic cork, you can store it standing up.
- Wine bottles with natural cork must always be stored lying down. Ideally, the bottle neck is tilted down a little. This type of storage prevents the natural cork from drying out.
- Wine does not like light and certainly not sun rays. For this reason, red wines are mostly filled in green or brown glass bottles. So store your wine in the darkest possible room.
- Wine not only likes it dark, but also cool. The ideal temperature for storing wine is between 12 and 14 degrees. It is important that the temperature is relatively constant.
- If you want to store a good wine for a longer period of time, for example over several years, the humidity in the room should be at least 50 percent. This is especially true for wines that are closed with natural cork. Dryness causes the cork to shrink and, over time, makes it crumbly and friable.
- Wine should not be moved during storage. Over time, a fine sediment forms, the so-called depot. Vibrations cause this depot to be whirled up.
- Tip: A wine cooler is ideal because it allows you to adjust the temperature and ensure perfect storage.
