Buy wide-angle lens: tips for the right choice
The construction of a wide-angle lens is very complicated. The complex technology is particularly reflected in the price.
- Light intensity: Good wide-angle lenses have high light intensities. The wide-open aperture enables you to achieve depth of field effects. Therefore, pay attention to aperture values between f / 1.5 and f / 6.5.
- Focal length: A conventional wide-angle lens has a focal length between 24 and 35 mm. Focal lengths below 24 mm are called super wide angles. The lower the focal length, the higher the light drop in the image corners.
- Wide-angle zoom: A zoom lens (for example with 18-70 mm) that covers a larger focal length range does not achieve as good wide-angle shots as a lens that covers a smaller area. Therefore, pay attention to specialized values. Lenses with fixed focal lengths in the wide-angle range are more suitable.
- Fixed focal length: A lens with a fixed focal length achieves better image quality than a zoom lens. Therefore, choose a lens with a fixed focal length in the wide-angle range (24 - 35 mm).
