What file systems does Mac support?
Before you can install Mac OS on a hard drive, you should know which file systems support Apple's system.
MacOS: These file systems are supported
- If you want to install Mac OS, you need a hard drive in HFS or HFS + format. Under MacOS, the name for these formats is "Mac OS Extended".
- With external hard drives or USB sticks, on the other hand, you are more free: Mac OS supports the HFS, HFs +, FAT32 and NTFS file systems. Your Mac can even read special formats such as ExFAT or NTFS-3G without any problems.
- In MacOS you will even find a tool that you can use to format your hard drives in the format you want.
