Regardless of whether you eat a pizza at home or in a restaurant: shortly after consumption, thirst sets in. This has two completely natural causes:
- First of all, unlike many other dishes, a pizza contains very little water: the bottom is crispy and the cheese is fatty. This means that you take in comparatively little water when you eat.
- Furthermore, pizzas contain a lot of salt, which in turn makes you thirsty. The body reacts with thirst to protect itself. The water in turn helps the kidneys process the salt.
How to quench your thirst
It's no wonder we're thirsty for pizza. It contains hardly any water and up to 5 grams of salt per serving, while the recommended daily dose is 6 grams. What is the best way to quench your thirst?
- To really quench your thirst, only one thing helps: plenty of water. It is best to drink a glass while eating and another one to quench your thirst after eating the pizza.
- In the restaurant in particular, many guests grab a glass of wine or a beer for pizza. However, alcohol unfortunately does not help against the feeling of thirst, which is why the additional glass of water is worthwhile.
- If you like to drink something sweet, a juice spritzer is also a good thirst quencher.
- You can also have a bite to eat - but this time something with plenty of water. For example, if you eat a small salad with pizza, prevent thirst from the outset.
