WhatsApp: load backup - so it'll work
If you have accidentally deleted important pictures or messages in WhatsApp, you can load an old backup and thus restore the data. We'll show you how to load the backup on iOS and Android.
iPhone: Load WhatsApp backup
- In WhatsApp, open the "Settings" at the bottom right and then the "Chats" category. In "Chat backup" you can see when the last backup was carried out.
- If you are satisfied with the time of the last WhatsApp backup, close the app. Hold your finger on the app icon until all apps start shaking. Tap the cross icon and delete the app from your iPhone.
- Download the latest version of WhatsApp from the App Store and register again with your phone number. You will then be asked if you want to restore the backup from your iCloud. This may take a few minutes.
Android: load WhatsApp backup
Note: If you back up your WhatsApp backup on Google Drive instead of locally on your Android smartphone, the backup is quickly loaded. Delete the app and register again. If you are not using synchronization with Google Drive, follow these instructions:
- First download a file manager, for example the free ES File Explorer.
- In the path "/ sdcard / WhatsApp / Databases" you will find all previous WhatsApp backups.
- Look for the desired backup file named msgstore-YYYY-MM-DD.db.crypt9. From the date you can see the age of the backup.
- Rename the backup to "msgstore.db.crypt9" and uninstall WhatsApp from your smartphone.
- Then download the latest WhatsApp version from the Google Play Store and register again.
- The backup is now automatically recognized and suggested for loading. The process may take a few moments depending on the size.
